El Faro

I am sitting here trying to decide what to say about my personal experience with the vigil in Rockland on Monday night.  We are tied up at the dock in Rockland with a great view of the stage where the vigil was to be held.  We were ambivalent about going and I am trying to figure out why we didn't immediately want to go.  I think that it was some weird belief that we had no right going if we didn't know them.  As the time came closer and the crowd gathered we felt compelled to go and glad we did.  Warm bodies adding to the support is priceless regardless of relationship.  We were without candles but there was a woman there who gave us some. The woman next to me had a beautiful a Japanese Akita dog that was friends with the Meklin Family dog. The owner acknowledged that her dog would really miss his friend.  It doesn't just effect the humans.

Here is a poem that was written by one of the supporters.  He did not want to read it himself so had someone else read it.  I asked him for a copy and I want to share it with you. He said he wrote it for Marshall who could not attend for the sadness it would bring him.  I think Marshall is his brother.

A moment of silence for the crew.  Tricia

  1. As Tricia said, we were ambivalent, but decided to join the hundreds of community members who gathered to show their support and offer whatever they could to the families of the two missing Rockland mariners and all the others who had not yet been found. I felt a part of the group without a candle and especially welcomed when given a candle by the woman near us. A very touching and informal gathering of people who cared.
